After frantically wrapping up my last summer session, my husband and I have escaped to Ruidoso, New Mexico for some serious rest and relaxation. We are having a wonderful time — so wonderful, in fact, that our waitress asked us at lunch today if we were honeymooners. She said we seemed really happy. She’s right!
The weather is perfect here, with highs in the 60s and 70s and lows in the 50s. The view is incredible, and I will do my best to capture it with my camera sometime this week. Last night, we sat out on our porch with hot tea and watched a magnificent lightning storm in the distance. I love storm-watching! I hope we get another one while we’re here.
In case you’re interested (and I know my family is!), I thought I would share a few photographs of our trip so far. These first few feature our Golden Retrievers, Leopold and Charlie. The car ride thrilled them, especially the part when we got a flat tire and had to stop in a little town to get it fixed. Personally, I was bored (and a little frustrated), so I took photographs of their enthusiasm. It was surprisingly therapeutic.
See? Don’t those grins make you feel better too?
In this shot, they’re watching the mechanic’s activity. It was riveting. Truly.
Leopold’s starting to feel a little antsy by now. He’s contemplating escape. I just know it. (And yes, at over 80 pounds of Golden goodness, Leo is a big dog.)
At last, even the puppies tire of our unexpected delay. Thank goodness it didn’t take too much longer!
After 14 hours on the road, we finally made it to Ruidoso. Here is a photograph from the next morning of our first visitor. As one of the ladies at Wal Mart said, “The deer all but pose for you around here!” Can you see the branch she’s chewing? It was very cute.
Well, that’s all for now! We will continue to take photographs and post them. I will also be doing a guest post (my first!) at Keeper of the Home, one of my favorite blogs, on Wednesday. Feel free to check it out. As always, thanks for reading!
